Millie and Nim

Updated: Nov 14, 2018

After shooting Poole and Parkstone Grammar schools’ prom an old friend of mine got in touch with me explaining that she’d like to model for me in a photoshoot with her super cute Labrador Nim! Since I was leaving for France a few days later I was eager to book the photo session quite fast.

I was really excited to…do my first pet photoshoot because although I have previously worked alongside the brilliant equine photographer Hannah Freeland gaining valuable experience of the world of horse riding and equestrian portraiture, I had not yet worked with dogs.

The day of the photoshoot brought overcast clouds and light showers, but Millie was still up for getting great pictures. It was a fun afternoon of taking shelter inside beach hut porches and running onto the sand at any dry moment giving Nim a chance to burn off some energy. I felt really lucky to be behind the camera viewing the lovely connection between Millie and her Lab whilst they played fetch and posed facing each other. Millie is a great sport for putting up the wet weather and the wet dog in the back of her car on the drive home!

After we finished shooting a good hot cuppa and a slice of cake was much needed at a little cafe on Swanage sea front. There Millie and I had a good Hygge catch up whilst Nim fell asleep under the table.

Days like this will always serve a reminder to me of how important photography is for capturing special moments and lifelong friendships. Here are a few of our fun trip to the beach!

“Had such an amazing experience with Leo. Such beautiful photos and such a relaxed experience. The dog got some camera attention too and the results were amazing!!” – Millie
