When I watched the 2017 Academy and BAFTA awards winning Luca Guadagnino film based on André Aciman's novel I was immediately taken back to my own memories of summer romances in Italy when I was younger. The story features a gay relationship that blossoms between a seventeen-year-old and his father's American research assistant during a summer in Northern Italy.

The film explores the change that takes place inside one's head when experiencing true love for the first time - and this in particular one proves to be quite intimate as a homosexual affair in the 1980's. Elio and Oliver explore their sexuality and their own personalities through one another in their own private world.

Due to how close this film is to my own personal coming of age, I wanted to start a series of photos that reference the emotions and actions of the characters Elio and Oliver.
